Andersen, Mrs. H.

My name is Helena Andersen. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a specialization in Teaching English as a Second Language in Hungary  I earned a Diploma in English for International Communication at City University of London, and I also acquired a certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages at Farnborough College of Technology in Aldershot, England.  I taught ESL at Southern Guilford High School in Greensboro, NC for three years and at Southern Guilford Elementary School for one year.  This is my fifth year teaching ESL in Long Hill Township.  I am looking forward to another great year!

I am looking forward to getting to know all my new students and I am equally excited to continue to work with my returning students to help them improve their English language skills in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.  Please know that you can always come to me with any questions or concerns.  I am always here to help.

Each student will receive a folder and a Journal to use for ESL. Students are expected to bring both their folder and Journal to each class.

Homework Policy

Homework will be assigned almost every class except for Fridays. 

Quizzes

There will be a Spelling Quiz and a Vocabulary Quiz given each week.

Andersen Bucks

 Central School - Room 1

Required Supplies
Each student is required to have 2” three ring binder labeled ESL.  I will supply each student with a binder at the beginning of the year.  Students will need to bring this binder to class every single day.  In this binder students need to have dividers and some blank ruled paper.  Dividers and blank paper will also be supplied.

The sections need to be labeled as follows: 

- Word of the Day
- Idioms
- Homework
- Writing Assignments
- Reading Comprehension
- Quizzes/Tests
- Vocabulary

Students are required to bring their Textbook, Workbook, Binder and Writing Assignment Journal to every class.

Homework Policy

Homework will be assigned each class except Fridays.  Late homework is accepted only once during each grading period.

Quizzes

There will be a Vocabulary Quiz every Monday, and a Spelling Quiz every Friday.  Other random quizzes may be given to ensure that students study for each period.

 Tests

 All tests will be given with one week-advance notice.

Andersen Bucks

Students can earn Andersen Bucks by displaying good character in the ESL classroom.  Please refer to the guidelines in your binders for more specifics as to how to earn Andersen Bucks and how you may use them.
