Dear Parents/Guardians:

This year, I am pleased to inform you that we are focusing on increasing instructional practices in the classroom that will further engage our learners to become critical thinkers through a rigorous curriculum. The district is currently exploring how technology can assist in this endeavor through the assistance of Future Ready initiatives at the state and national levels. These initiatives ensure that the instructional practices in the classroom are challenging our students to think creatively while using their ingenuity to solve real-world problems. As educators, we are committed to empowering your child to achieve and succeed in school.

Creating a safe and nurturing environment is at the core of what we promise to achieve this year. As you may recall, a parent survey was completed in June on the priorities of school safety. These results will be reported to the Board of Education on Monday, September 17, 2018, and subsequently with our school community. Construction of school vestibules at each of our schools will soon be underway. This will ensure another important layer of security for our students and staff. Chief of Police Naga and I have been meeting over the summer to analyze our procedures and one of the outcomes of our meetings will be increased visibility in our schools. Our strong working relationship continues to drive initiatives to ensure a safe learning environment for all.

The recent results of the Special Education audit will also be shared with the Board and the public on Monday, September 17, 2018, by the Educational Services Commission of New Jersey. The presentation will be shared with you electronically and posted on our website. An important recommendation is to have a district supported Special Education Advisory Group led by parents that will partner with our special education team and administration. We look forward to having our first meeting this month and the date will be communicated to you soon. Additionally, I will be seeking parents to join a new Superintendent’s Advisory Group which will facilitate greater communication and understanding in the school community. Our website will also be undergoing an update to strengthen communication in the district.  The feedback has indicated that the website is cumbersome to navigate. The hope is to create more intuitive solutions when searching for important district and school-specific information.

Lastly, I want to thank you for entrusting our staff with the important task of teaching your child. It is a great honor for me, our dedicated teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators and Board of Education members who work collaboratively to ensure a dynamic and supportive learning environment for your child. I encourage you to take advantage of the many opportunities to visit your child’s classroom and to partner with your child’s teacher and building principal. We look forward to working with you to advance student learning. Thank you for your continued support of our school district. My very best wishes for a productive and enjoyable school year!
