November 2018

There are many dates in November in which we will be having half days of school due to parent-teacher conferences and thanksgiving. Please make note of these half days and the half day schedule.

During the week of October 29th, we will continue to discuss Halloween and fall related items, as well as the letter D. The children will learn about the fall, make a scarecrow, and count buttons for their scarecrow. Also we will be having our Halloween parade and party on Wednesday, October 31st. Please refer to the detailed letter regarding this special day.

During the week of November 3rd, we will be having three half days of school. During this week I will also be having conferences with each family. The conferences are ten minutes long and run back to back. Please be prompt, as I will only be able to accommodate you during your scheduled ten-minute block of time. There will be half-days on Monday, November 3rd, Tuesday, November 4th, and Wednesday, November 5th. Our show and tell for this week is anything!

On each half day the schedule is as follows:

·         AM Class 9:00-11:00

School will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 6th and 7th.

During the weeks of November 12th and 19th, we will be discussing our families, Thanksgiving and the letter E. We will be making a family tree and need a family portrait, which will also be used as our Show and Tell on Wednesday. In addition to our family portraits, we will also be learning about the first thanksgiving, discuss what we are thankful for, and discuss types of food that may be eaten for Thanksgiving dinner. We will end our Thanksgiving learning with a feast on Wednesday, November 21st. Each child will be responsible to bring in one item for the feast. A letter indicating what to bring will be sent soon. The children will prepare apple and pumpkin pie in class and enjoy their own version of the first Thanksgiving. Please note there is a half-day of school on Wednesday, November 21st. We will be in class from 9:00-11:00 AM.

Finally, during the week of November 26th we will focus our learning around Teddy Bears and the letter F. We will be reading Corduroy, counting buttons and bears, and most importantly sharing our teddy bears for show and tell. Please make sure that your child sends his or her teddy bear (or another stuffed animal if a teddy bear is not owned) to school on Wednesday for show and tell. If your child is willing, the teddy bears will have a “sleep over” in school. We will tuck over teddy bears under blankets when we leave and say good nights to our bears. When the children come in the next day (Thursday), they will find that their bears may not have slept all night-maybe some mischief was made! We will then have a Teddy Bear Picnic with our bears around a picnic table cloth on the floor!

As always if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!
