November 2018
Preschool News

There are many dates in November in which we will be having half days of school due to parent-teacher conferences and Thanksgiving. Please make note of these half days and the half-day schedule.

During the week of October 29th, we will continue to discuss Halloween and fall related items, as well as the letter D. The children will make a scarecrow version of themselves, count buttons for their scarecrow, and sequence the letters within their name on a turkey.  Also, we will be having our Halloween parade (AM only) and parties on Wednesday, October 31st.  Please refer to the detailed letter regarding this special day.

During the week of November 5th, we will be having three half days of school.  During this week I will also be having conferences with each family.  The conferences are ten minutes long and run back to back.  Please be prompt, as I will only be able to accommodate you during your scheduled ten-minute block of time.  There will be half-days on Monday, November 5th, Tuesday, November 6th, and Wednesday, November 7th.  Our show and tell for this week is anything!

On each half day, both classes will attend school.  The schedule is as follows:

  • AM class 9:00-11:00
  • PM class 11:30-1:25

School will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 8th and 9th.

During the weeks of November 12th and 19th, we will be discussing our families, Thanksgiving, and the letter E.  One important activity that we will be doing requires your help at home. We will be making a family tree using cutouts of each family member’s hand.  A specific letter about the project will be sent soon!  In addition to our family projects, we will also be learning about the first Thanksgiving, discuss what we are thankful for, and discuss the types of food that may be eaten for Thanksgiving dinner.  We will end our Thanksgiving learning with a feast on Wednesday, November 21st.  Each child will be responsible to bring in one item for the feast.  A letter indicating what to bring will be sent soon. The children will prepare cornbread and cranberry bread in class and enjoy their own version of the first Thanksgiving.  Please note that there is a half-day of school on Wednesday, November 21st.  The AM class will attend from 9:00-11:00 and the PM class will attend from 11:30-1:25.

Finally, during the week of November 26th, we will focus our learning around Teddy Bears and the letter F.  We will be reading CorduroyGoldilocks and the Three Bears, counting buttons, and most importantly sharing our teddy bears for show and tell.  Please make sure that your child sends his or her teddy bear (or another stuffed animal if a teddy bear is not owned) to school on Wednesday for show and tell.  If your child is willing, the teddy bears will have a “sleep over” in school.  We will tuck our teddy bears under blankets when we leave and say good night to our bears. When the children come in the next day (Thursday), they will find that their bears may not have slept all night – maybe some mischief was made!  We will then have a Teddy Bear Picnic with our bears around a picnic tablecloth on the floor!

As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!
